Ivan Gašparovič, the Speaker of SNR, and Vladimír Mečiar, the Prime Minister, signed the Constitution of the Slovak Republic in the Constitutional Hall (also known as the Knights’ Hall). The adoption of the basic legislative act of the state was the climax of the state-forming ambition of the Slovak nation and an indication of the creation of an independent state of the Slovak Republic four months later.
